Contemporary Dance Technique

Marc Boivin has been working as a dancer in Quebec, Canada and abroad for more than 30 years. A dancer gifted with evocative sensitivity, he has received accolades from critics and the public for his performances. Since the beginning of his dance career in 1982 with Le Groupe de la Place Royale in Ottawa, under the direction of Peter Boneham, Mr. Boivin has applied his performance skills to numerous choreographies and projects. Beginning in 1985, he participated in various works and toured Canada, the US and Europe with O Vertigo Dance Company with Ginette Laurin. In 1991, he became an independent dancer. Since then, he has been sought after by choreographers of great renown, such as Louise Bédard, Sylvain Émard, Jean-Pierre Perreault, James Kudelka, Tedd Robinson, Felix Ruckert and Catherine Tardif. He has also participated in several improvisation projects with Andrew Harwood and Peter Bingham. In 1999, Mr. Boivin won the Jacqueline-Lemieux Prize, awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
While pursuing his dance career, Mr. Boivin began to teach at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 1987. Passionate about the pedagogical approach, he often teaches and does choreography in schools and universities across Canada. He has created several works for them that have been performed throughout the country. 
Drawing upon his experience, from 2004-2008 he created solos for To Somewhere Else and Between Here and Now for professional dancers Jolene Bailie (Winnipeg) and Jennifer Dallas (Toronto), as well as the group piece Fragments for the Code Universel company in Quebec City. 
Very involved in Canada’s contemporary dance milieu,  Marc Boivin plays an active role in its emancipation. President of the Jean-Pierre Perreault Foundation since 2006, he was also a member of the Arts Council of Montreal from 2006 to 2010. He is the chairman of the Regroupement québécois de la danse since October 2010.
